For parents

What a parent does, and what you do not

You are part of the lesson. You do not need to read music, and you do not need to play.

  • In the lesson

Sit beside your child and take notes. Your teacher explains what you will do at home.

  • At home

A few minutes of listening and playing each day, at a time that suits your family. Short and regular is enough.

  • In group class

Watch from the side. Children learn from each other, and you will hear the pieces they are working toward.

Learning together

Your hand, then theirs

Young players begin by copying. A parent's steady hand on the bow, then a lighter one, then none at all, is how most children find the first sounds. Your teacher shows you how to help without taking over.

  • No music background needed

  • Ten minutes a day is plenty to begin

  • Your teacher writes the plan down
