Questions we hear most

How old does a child need to be?

Little strings is for ages 3 to 6, with a parent beside the child. Private lessons are for students aged 8 and older. Your teacher suggests a path at the placement visit.

How long is a lesson?

A private lesson is 30 or 45 minutes. Younger beginners usually start with 30, and your teacher suggests a length after the placement visit.

Do we need to own an instrument?

Not for the first visit. Ask your teacher before you buy or rent anything. How renting works is on the tuition page.

Does a parent need to know music?

No. A parent sits beside the child, takes notes and learns what to listen for at home. No music background is needed.

How is a teacher chosen for us?

At the placement visit a teacher listens to what your child likes, and we match you by instrument, age and what suits your week.

What is a placement visit?

A short visit where you meet a teacher, your child tries a small instrument and you talk about what you hope for. It ends with a teacher and a weekly time.

Does my child have to play in concerts?

No. Concerts are for students who want to play, and families are welcome to come and listen.

What happens if we miss a lesson?

Tell us a day ahead and we find another time for a private lesson. If a teacher misses a lesson, we make it up. Group classes are not made up.

Can a grown-up start from nothing?

Yes. Private lessons are open to adults, and many of our parents begin in the room beside their child.

How is the school different from lessons at home?

Children learn together in group class as well as alone with a teacher, and a parent learns along. Playing with other children is part of every week.
